The Russian Freight Rail Market in H1 2013
In the first half of 2013, freight transport volumes continued to decline: total freight volumes were at 606 mln tn (down 3.6% y-o-y), while freight turnover was at 1,069 bln tkm (down 2.9% y-o-y), representing a decline of 22.8 mln tn and 32.3 bln tkm, respectively.

In May 2013 the decline continued in rail freight traffic (-3.4% or down 3.7 mln tonnes) and turnover (-1.2%) compared to May 2012.
In addition to previous drivers (oil products and grain), construction cargoes contributed to the decline.

Brunswick Rail appoints former Access Industries CEO Alex Genin, as Chief Executive Officer
27 May 2013, Moscow ― Brunswick Rail, Russia’s leading privately owned freight railcar operating lessor, has appointed Alex Genin as Chief Executive Officer, effective June 2013. Mr. Genin will take over from Vladimir Lelekov, who will focus on overall strategy in his capacity as Chairman of the Board’s Strategy Committee.

With the slowdown in construction and decline in demand for natural resources on the domestic and foreign markets, in April 2013 rail freight traffic was down 3.5% (or 3.7 mln tonnes) and freight turnover decreased by 1.5% compared to April 2012.
